when nature fought back artist spotlight - kristan macintyre

over the month of september and leading up to the big photo shoot for the when nature fought back collection, i'm hosting some guest spotlights with all the other artists who are collaborating with me on this project. they include fellow fibre artists, a photographer, a jeweler, and my models, and all have their own incredible art practices that i want to share with you all. starting on september 7th, tune in every monday and wednesday of this month to read about a different artist.

today's featured artist is kristan macintyre, who made some jaw-droppingly gorgeous shawl pins for the soil carver and moon mate designs. (i decided that i liked moon mate better than moon-faced hunter, so we're going with that. the lookbook hasn't launched yet, so i get to do that! mwah ha.)

q: why did you agree to be a part of this process?
a: How could I not?! I've admired your work on instagram for so long & it feels like we both have a similar earthy, nature inspired feel to our work. We both love to create beautiful things & keep it fun.

q: how would you define your practice?
a: It's still evolving. The knitting jewellery connection was actually a bit of a surprise. Although, I've been making jewellery almost as long as I've been knitting so perhaps it's more of a surprise that it didn't happen sooner!

kristan's row counter ring is how i first found her! i'm more than a little in love with mine. photo by paolo scardillo.

q: why do you do collaborations (this one and in general)?
a: It's great to be able to bounce ideas off of someone else. Either starting with something you would never have thought of yourself or actually being able to let something go & just see what happens. Feeling a spark of new inspiration is wonderful too!

q: what is your dream project?
a:  We (my boyfriend & I) would love to create some sort of creative/collaborative community. A combined workspace/gallery maybe?

q: what's a fun fact about yourself?
a:  I have tiny bit of a bird obsession. So much so that when I sit down to design something new it's not that unusual for some sort of bird doodle to wind up on the page first... We have a few hens and a budgie that have given us a huge amount of inspiration & many hours of entertainment.

thanks so much for playing along, kristan!
